Dominated by the visionary talent of the architect designer Alvar Aalto (1896-1976), Artek's production immediately highlighted natural and warm materials such as wood, copper and leather, at a time when modernity was dominated by metal, chrome and hard geometric lines (Le Corbusier, Marcel Breuer, etc.). The aesthetic, both humble and ingenious, of Alvar Aalto finds its extension today in the production of the brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, who knew how to give contemporary versions of the modularity dear to Aalto (Kaari collection) and his talent for patterns combining geometric rigor and the fragility of hand tracing (Rivi collection).

For more than 80 years, Artek products have enriched public spaces – museums, schools, restaurants, hotels, stores – as well as countless private homes around the world. In 2013, the Swiss Vitra bought Artek. On this occasion, Daniel Sachs, Executive Director of Artek, declared 'Vitra has the ideal corporate culture, know-how and industrial resources to enable Artek to continue its development.
