Swedish Design 🇸🇪Â
It may seem strange that something as humble as the String System® from Swedish manufacturer String Furniture has become a design classic, but some things reflect their era so perfectly that they become timeless.
Initially, a competition launched by the major Swedish publisher Bonnier in 1949: if post-war Swedes wanted to buy books, they needed a practical, inexpensive and easy-to-assemble shelving system. Nisse Strinning had a flash of genius and won first prize: metal side ladders between which elements – shelves, sideboards, desks, etc. – hang freely.
The result was named String System and the String Furniture company was created to produce it on a large scale. Since then, String shelves have enjoyed continued worldwide success thanks to their blend of modularity, simplicity and aesthetic lightness.
In addition to the String System shelving system and their small format variation, the String Pocket shelves, the String Furniture company also manufactures the Pira G2 shelving system, as well as a complete office layout system.
